Williamsville Rotary Club member Ed Stachura gave a great classification talk.  Ed is a Senior Project Manager for TVGA Consultants, which is a local civil engineering group that designs and plans major projects.  Ed by the way actually retired in August of 2007.  He was formerly with Parsons Engineering and URS Consultants.  He wanted to stay active in his engineering profession and especially wanted to be able to mentor younger engineers, so he joined TVGA.

TVGA has offices in Buffalo and Jamestown.  They take on any sized project and can perform strictly planning, or design, or construction, or they can take an idea from early concept right through to a turn-key operation.  They have the unique position of having a grant writer on staff, which helps to keep the project moving, and arrange funding.  They work with government as well as private clients.

Some of the jobs they have been involved with are:

The Hertel Avenue re-construction project ($10.7 mil) and the City of Buffalo DPW on Grider Street ($5.0 mil)

Ed is currently working on the NYS Thruway toll booth relocation from Williamsville to Pembroke (while this may seem like a simple relocation of some toll booths, it is deeply involved and complicated involving environmental studies, wetlands relocation etc.  The write up and specifications for the study currently involves 10 volumes of paperwork, and the final price tag will be $95 mil).
